What are little boys made of?

Do you agree with,

"What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails,
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,
That's what little girls are made of."

Not sugar and spice and all that is nice?

What are little boys made up of?

Of two year olds running after a football …

Of balancing on a moving tricycle at three

(And three stitches to remember that ...)

Of washing a remote controlled car ...

Of emptying bottles of oil on skinny arms,

Of three dedicated push ups

And then another irresistible peek to check them (missing) bulging muscles

Of talcum powder on the floor

Of shirt unbuttoned like Shah Rukh Khan

Neckties without a shirt

Daddy’s leather belts worn on PJs

Of wardrobes emptied on the floor ...

(and once hid an egg there in the hope that it will hatch)

Of a passion for gum boots,

With daddy’s socks

Of towels and dupatttas used as Superman’s cape

Of underwear worn on top of jeans

And of being allowed to go out to play like that ...

Of letters to Santa and tooth fairies

Of jumping in the sea like 'Bay Watch’ because Mamma thought she was drowning

Of missing the sound of Daddy clearing his throat ...

Of West Life and Bryan

Of hours spent in front of the mirror to look like Bryan

Of Bryan’s hair style

Of favorite lyrics and Pokémon cartoons

In the last pages of all school notebooks

Of music classes bunked to play football

Of thinking they can drive at three

Of wanting to be daddy when they grow up

Of wanting to be rock stars tomorrow

Of wanting to be footballers today …

Of avoiding running over frogs and snails ...
while cycling full speed
Of whooping and rolling on the floor
to the tune of
Of a puppy dogs wagging tail
Isn't that what little boys are made up of ...

Awww... Cho chweet. I can remember my kid bro doing almost all of this, and me bossing around and complaining to Dad about him. Mom ignored these silly complaints, but Dad always told me how intelligent I was and how must I teach li'l bro to be equally intelligent. Today, if bro (who'll be 21 soon) wants something, he has to ask me to ask Dad. LOL...
And yeah, he is a footballer today, and captain of his college team, too!

Awww..cho chweet. Hugsy to little boys.

My brother used to repair all the toy cars he had even when they were in good condition. He just wanted to know what was inside it. Then he started repairing in good shape alarm clocks, Goodknight mosquito coil. His cuteness was that he would do all this and keep it just as it is so always got caught:)):))

And Bryan Adams and Westlife was spot on too.

That was nostalgic actually. These days, boys are of a lot of other stuff as well - videogames, high scores, laptops, ipods, fast food etc. etc.

Good ol' days

He he he ya, My mom had a really hard time, she wanted two special girls. What she got was two goonda's as sons'. We'll I was the quite one but internally naughty, my brother was ha ha ha don't get me started. I saw the pattern you described above. I used to steal my father's clothes and now my brother steals mine. But we have a great time together. Once we played starting two day's Quake.

@Surbhi Most dads favour little daughters, not fair!

@Alankrita Love puppy dogs tails :)

@Braja Many little ones do that, we made saris with dupattas :)

Monika.Ansh :)

@Deeply Deep Read hitchwriters comment, it's much worse actually ;))

@Solilo Like my son, whatever he does he gets caught :)

@Ajit I thought you were a good boy as a kid!!

@Iya Oh they are all the same, you think my daughter was any easier ...!!

@Varunavi They are smart kids! And please put up little superwoman's pics :)))

@Pixie :)

@Rhett This is Bryan from Westlife, I thought they all looked the same ... but the kids thought Bryan was the cutest :)

@Goofy Mamma Stitches and tetanus shots lol .. they were an exhausting job :)

@Rakesh this is between 2 to 11 years, they were allowed very limited time on the Comp, and no play station, very limited TV too ... I was worried they won't get enough exercise (like their mother) ... even now my son's mouse and keyboard are locked in my wardrobe for one week ... another year and they will be on their own I guess, and by then hopefully have got used to physically active life style...!! I-Pods are fine though ...
See how women like to talk about their kids!

I have see this apply to my sister too ....(another Leo by the way)

@Writerzblock :) Me feeling happy too!

@Sashu - My sister and in many ways my daughter both can be described with the same words ....

@Abha Awww please read it to Cubby .. :) Give him a hug too!

@Monika Aren't they such devils!!? :))

@Balvinder Singh Thank You :) Oh Yes this son of mine is still the same in many ways !

@Biju Mathews He ruined that car! (amongst many other things)
And I missed how he washed my contact lenses !!!

@Reema :)

@my space Awww they love that the best! And people think it's only little girls who love dressing up! And I also let him come anywhere with us in his dupatta capes ...

@Sandhya :) LOL I am a sucker for little girls actually :)

@Mamma mia! Me a mamma Thank You for appreciating it :))

@Vimmuuu LOL I Wrote this, the kids would have talked ... wonder what they would describe their childhood as!

@Mavin I too have a sister who fits this description perfectly :) And my dad was really proud of her, I can see dads love little (not so little now) tomboys :)

@Mandira :) Glad you like it ...

@Charakan "Trying to get him interested in Football so that I will get company to watch the match on TV." Boys really love to spend time with and be like dads - it's amazing how much it matters to them!

Enjoyed reading this list. Our elder is a daughter, and she was just too good, and then this hurricane came into our life and things were never the same. He did most of the above, in addition to lifting our Lhasa Apso by his tail, riding his tricycle all over him and jumping off the sofa with a serving spoon fashioned as a 'gada' and yelling 'Jai Shri Ram' (those were Ramayan days on TV). My peak cap was always on his head, when he could lay his hands on it and then wrestling with me on the bed, calling out, 'mujh se fighting karega' and yes the pushups....wow..memories come flooding back. Thank you IHM.

"of hiding an egg hoping it will hatch" haha... did your sonny boy actually do that, it was so damn sweeet :)

Indian Home Maker said...

@N Oh yes he did, and we came back late from a party I was putting them to bed, picked a t shirt and what fell on the floor, and crashed and what stink ... it had been there sometime :)

@Usha Pisharody Our cat (all our cats in fact) officially belong to him) ... When our dachchund was in his last stages of cancer, he would come and ask me,"Are you feeling sad?", And once I said,
"No, I think I am prepared for it."
He burst into tears saying "But I am feeling sad. I don't him to die..." (He was seven then). He is the deep, deep one in the family.

@Aneri Maaasi Thank You :)

@J P Joshi :) Oh yes!!! Peak caps! I have my son's photos in just a peak cap and boots ... but he will not permit me to publish such pics!! Their passion for daddy's uniforms is phenomenal!!

@Homecooked He does show affection, but in more subtle ways ... he is sensitive, but he's also devilish...
