Tattoo Tales :)

My mom is horrified, "You let her go where?"

IHM: "Err it's okay, she will be fine ..."

My Mom: She didn't listen to you? Give me her mobile number. Let me speak to her ...

IHM: "Ma, I have seen the place, and I liked the design she chose ..."

My Mom: 'Tattoo is same thing that our bai has on her arm? Oh! It must be one of those stick-on things?"

IHM: "Err no actually it is the permanent kinds. But don't worry, she is a sensible girl ... I have considered all these things. And so has she. It's her arm ma ;)"

My Mom: "You allowed her to get a permanent tattoo! "

IHM: "Maa I had bigger concerns, the place is hygienic, and they use disposable needles ..."

My Mom: "You give the phone to your your Lord and Master!"

IHM: He isn't home :)

My Mom: Son is home?

IHM: Son?? Yeah ...

So I give the phone to Son, who had been busy with his home work.

This is what I hear (He isn't too comfortable with Hindi.)

"Yeah but Nani times have changed, zamana abhi badal gaya hai nani !"

"Nani but she is .. err woh aaj ke zamane ki ladki hai! "

"But it's her hand nani, she likes it, and all our friends also have tattoos ..."

" ....no she can't jump in a well if they do but err ... it's a very common thing these days, now times have changed a lot ... "

"Me? No? I have not thought about getting one for myself Nani... err Thank You Nani :D"

"...but actually it is not considered a bad thing these days, your time was very different ... now we have modern technology."

"Yes Nani you are also modern."

"Okay Nani. Er but nani, .. err but if your daughter wanted a tattoo what would you have said?"

"Oh!..... Yes Nani."

" But actually Mamma is also planning to get one."

"Nani wants to speak to you."

The phone is handed back to me.

LOL... Nani is too sweet! (((hugs))) to her! And poor dear has this 'stubborn' daughter who has made her own daughter equally stubborn. ROTFL...
Hats off to your girl who's not scared of needles. They simply freak me out big time. But just double-check for the syringes. I don't trust people so much these days, esp. with such stuff.
BTW, what designs are you mom-daughter duo getting?

Anonymous said...

Oh BTW published your first born tag.

Hahahaha!!! My elder son has two, is planning a third. I am planning on getting a phoenix tattoo on the nape of my neck. My Mom would have reacted like that if I had a daughter ... or even with me. Poor Nani

IHM, now this is news, but a calamity for your daughter's naani :P!

She asked to speak to the men of the house na? Didn't trust your perspective on it?? Lol! Sounds just like my mother. She insists she speak to my son, when it comes to difficult situations, and decisions [for her ie :) :)]

Lol! Loved this post too!

Love all of them here, actually :)

Even I am not very fond of tatoos by the way.and yeah, I generally don't do things because 'times have changed', I would do if I really like something.

If my GF would wanna do it, I don't think I will oppose her, But if she asks me, I will suggest her not too..;-)..!!he he!!

Hmm... I have read about so many bloggers wanting to get a tattoo, why the sudden tattoo craze? Is it the "in"-thing in India right now? Just curious.

hahahaha LOL... IHM...
best of luck on your tattoo

Beth said...

Interesting... my mother would simply say "ok..." shemight roll her eyes nod or head or draw back depending on her real feelings. I grew up wishing she was more vocal with her thoughts about what we were doing. Now I realize that she was trying not to be Nani.

I am sacred of tattoo... my brother got one and got sick. I have pretty skin anyway.

The the issue of this post is not really tattoos, is it.

Beth has said too much for a first time...

Mandira said...

ROFL..loved the twist in the tail...
so tell us, wat tattoo are u planning on getting?an angel?a butterfly?something more exotic?

Anonymous said...

super duper cute!
And really, you are the way I want to be with my daughter. I think I have mentioned earlier in one of your boyfriend discussions with daughter posts- I don't want to be her friend. She should have friends her own age. I just want to be a super cool Mom. Just like you! I have a very clear vision in my mind on where friendship ends and parenting begins and you totally fit in my vision. I hope I can be like you.

haha! So finally did you convince your mom? Oh but whom am I kidding! dont we know daughters always win ;-)

Anonymous said...

My dadi would have got a tattoo herself. She was too modern for her times. :)

Anonymous said...

Wow....you are one cool mom! Can we get a pic please :) And waiting to hear your side of the conversation regarding your tattoo :)

Unknown said...

ROTFL....GOSH... I can almost imagine my maa talking to me like that.. :-D

Indian Home Maker said...

@Ritu But the good part is we can generally win them over ....
:)

@Homecooked When my mum can say nothing she says, if your husband has no problem, what can I say!

@Amit LOL Yes! My grand children will say the samething for their grand mother :)

@What'sinaname My mom was genuinely horrified and hasn't yet see her grand daughter's tattoo, but I did manage to show her a cousin's tattoo ... will blog about the horrifying moment :))

Indian Home Maker said...

@Masood :) It was really funny!

@Aneesha Actually two of my friends have got tattoos, and one cousin also, so only thing horrifying is it's permanence ... haven't got one yet, but do plan to :)

@Suma It was so funny, yes the fireworks were there but then she is thinking I am all talk, no tattoo :)

@Mystic Margarita :)

@Sahaja I will just come over and see this tag !

Indian Home Maker said...

@CA Tattoos are difficult to digest!!
:))

@ Vimmuuu She got three tiny flower like things which I thought were nothing great, I have always wanted a Peace sign or a Pisces sign ...
Now I am dying to read your post on your tattoo. Please do post it soon, with pictures!!

@Deeps I meant to draw something in dark green and tell her it's a tattoo, but then got so busy with a wedding ... but I haven't forgotten about it ...

@Aneri Masi I asked my mum she said so long as you don't plan to get any tattoos she will be more than happy yo adopt you!
But to be adopted by me, you will need some fancy tattoos :)))
Now choose!

Indian Home Maker said...

@Aaarti I learnt about secret tattoos in the wedding I attended recently!
Will blog about it :)

@Jira If you get a tattoo, please do blog about it!

@Tearsndreams I feel so good when you say this! We are friends too, in some ways, but I agree a mother has to be a mother, and can not stop being one (or should not)...
It's very difficult to be her friend when I see the mess in her room!

@Mandira I want a Peace sign or a Pisces sign on my arm.... oh yes, that a nice one, about a twist in the tail :))

Indian Home Maker said...

@Beth WELCOME!!
And doubly welcome for seeing through the lighthearted post, yes it is much more than a tattoo ...
I would be delighted to hear Beth say lots and lots more in future too...

Indian Home Maker said...

@Piper It wasn't painful for her(so she says), and it was safe because they gave the needle and the kit wrapper with care instructions to her...
Family reaction!!! Tell me about those :)

@OG Thanks :)

@Kislay Two of my nephews have tattoos, and large ones too, one has a his girl friend's name (now fiancee) and the other a huge eagle on his upper arm.... I wonder what will they do when (and if) they get fed up....
I want only one, but my daughter says most of her friends have more than one...it seems getting tattooed is addictive!

Indian Home Maker said...

@memyhubbynbaby Yes it seems to be a fad, and one thought I have is when so many people will get bored of their tattoos what will they do!!
But then I thought the same for three ear piercings and nose piercings too :)

@Ramya And the Bai says now they don't get tattoos because of fear of AIDS.

@Feminist Review Thanks :)

@Mavin I asked the same questions at first, but she seemed convinced, and still went twice and came back! So I knew she was very sure she wanted it...
I am always the wary one, last to colour my hair, last to get nose piercing, never use chemicals, ... I feel a peace/Pisces tattoo on upper arm could be fun.
A temporary one is not the same thing... It's like why don't we like artificial jewelry?

Indian Home Maker said...

@Sameera Yes, sure I will sign it.

@Rohini She was outnumbered, nobody supported her and she is basically democratic so she gave up with the logic that if the men in the family do not object ....

@Abha I LOVED your tattoo, I showed that post to my daughter too...
Yes my son can be really sweet when put in such positions of authority... he is not used to hearing complaints of against errant sister!

@Monika.Ansh Not hundred percent sure, but probably a Peace sign or a Pisces sign ... and not too big either... Sounds good??
:)

@Rakesh I have always wanted a Peace sign! Sometimes I think that might look kind of more for guys kind of thing, so maybe a Pisces sign, but a peace is less complicated and less likely to come out untidy!

Yes I agree it is going to stay so one must be sure it will not be something we start hating after a while...
please, PLEASE do a post on your tattoo, with pictures!
-I am sure we will all love to read that one!

@Smita Mom is refusing to discuss this, I think she is hoping I will forget about it!

Indian Home Maker said...

@Chikki By times have changed he means now kids can do something they like -if there is no serious health hazard or any other harm. We know tattoos were extremely common in India earlier also.
Today we only hate them because they symbolise 'modern'. Or 'backward'... something bais do.
I am neutral...
Open to trying one myself also :)
I wish to try because I feel tattoos look nice, if well done...
What if your GF wants to tattoo your name? I know of a girl who got her parents names tattooed to pacify them :)

@N Lol :)

@Indyeah Nanis are the same all over the world I guess :) Yeah this was funny, I thought this was worth blogging even while this was going on!

Indian Home Maker said...

@Anonymous Thanks :)

@Deeply Dip :) lol yes it was really, really funny ...I was laughing the most when I could hear my son's replies.

@Sandhya I am hoping to get a Peace sign .. or a Pisces sign.

@NM What are yoou planning to get done, hers was a floral motif... she chose a small tattoo.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Aathira It seems it is not painful, she said it wasn't painful for her. Maybe it hurts in some places, arms and all should be fine, and easy :)

@Usha Pisharody Yes she had to speak to the men in the house!! She did think it was a calamity and was sure she would be able to make the daughter come back home if she could speak to her, but her grandson was so relived his sister didn't have her old phone number :)
The two siblings are a great team, loyal and always united against all dictatorship attempts :)

@Angel's Flight -Yes it was hilarious!

@Dew Drop Dream Nothing very interesting, some floral design ...but I am glad she likes it :)

@Wordjunkie Yeah ... I do plan to post photos ... :)

@How do we know -LOL nothing, her tattoo has healed completely, and mine is still under planning stage!

@Hitchwriter I also worry about the permanent part!!! it's like nose piercing or ear piercing, once done, you live with it!!

@Monika OH my God FOUR tattoos, that's what my daughter, says, it is addictive, you have one, there is every chance that you will have more!

@Tarun Goel :)

@Bones This guy used a kit, sealed and packed, and with instructions and some cream (vitamin A & D cream) and you also get to take your needle home... and it seems safe. A bit like ear piercing ...
Not painful on your arms at least, also depends on our tolerance levels... I guess!

@Phoenixritu Wow!!! I'd love to read about your experience PLEASE and pictures if possible too!! Nape of neck might hurt, but is convenient if yo wish to not show, just leave your hair lose :) A cousin chose her back for the convenience of being able to hide or show as required!

@Solilo :) Read it, LOVED it :)

@Surbhi This girl is petrified of needles otherwise, but braved all the discomfort for a tattoo :) I plan to get a Pisces or a Peace sign ...
Nani accepts everything if son-in-law approves :)

@Chirag LOL :)) No not irritating Nani at all, she has accepted or forgotten about it already!
The idea of a blogging about our tattoos is great, please do post about yours, when you get one!! I'd love to read about it.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Solilo It was such a simple thing, though funny, but still I am surprised to find so many people seem to like this post...
Maybe because it followed some angry posts!

@Varunavi Mine isn't done yet and I have been planning for a long time, but I guess I will get it done before my nephew's wedding :)
And it will most probably be a peace sign or Pisces symbol :)

@Goofy Mama I emailed you the details I hope you have got that mail?
:)

@Iya So much hard work for a tattoo, first choose a design, then find a good place ... and then bear some discomfort and then take care of the tattoo initially ... lol what all we do to be scarred for life!
:)

@RV That was brilliant!! I love this idea... I know of this girl who plans to write her immediate family's names ... Maybe that is why women got their husbands and fathers names tattooed in the past :))
I will just take a look at the link you have provided.

@Rat How's Peace or Pisces? Sounds nice ...??? I want something simple to avoid any errors, there are no erasers in tattoo art!

@Mamma mia! Me a mamma? LOL It just stopped there, I think either my mom has forgotten about it or she is thinking I have forgotten :)

@D LOL ...Yeah, tough time she had:)

@Crafty Shines - Peace/Pisces ... please advise!

Ratzzz said...

Peace!!!!

who knows , Pisces may be misspelt too...
