Whose Earth Is It Anyway?

Some of us think it is okay to kill animals for fun.

I remember a Bishnoi witness on the TV explaining how Salman Khan's (and his friends) idea of fun was to chase a Black Buck to total exhaustion, before killing him. What kind of people would enjoy such cruelty? The Bishnois are a people who respect nature and treat all animals kindly. They can't be bribed with celebrity status or cash.

Mitali Mukherjee (on CNBC TV18) was giggling and wondering why such a big deal was being made of animal killing when so many people were dying everyday.

So do we wait till all human killing has stopped before we start fighting against animals cruelty? Or is cruelty to animals a proof of our love for the human race? I think generally those who do care, care for all life forms.

Prince Charles and Wife Camilla hunt fox by engaging in practice of setting a pack of hounds on a wild animal for fun.

Enid Blyton, in The Children of Cherry Tree farm, describes a breathless, panting fox running into a cave and collapsing at the feet of Tammylan (the wild man) who lives in the jungle.

Sarah Palin is a bully who never saw an animal she didn't want to kill. She thinks it's okay to gun down wolves. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), for all their outrageous and frivolous ad campaigns is doing a great job.

Here's their new game in the News recently, because it lets you pelt the Alaska Governor with snow balls. Play it, it's fun :)

The planet belongs to the stupid humans , who like a virus are destroying this planet systematically . There are times when I can be quite misanthropic . :)

Aha. This argument also applies to all those Indians who call for "setting our house in order first" before asking Pakistan to take steps to tackle Islamic terrorism that's fermenting on their territory. :)

yes ,yes and yes.....this is how I feel every day of my life when I see ppl senselessly doing hurtful things to animals...chasing stray dogs ,hitting them with stones??why?I just dont get it..chasing cows hitting them with sticks to get them off the road..in a country where ppl dont notice the faces peering in at car windows at streetlights ,u really think animals stand a chance?and where the courts pass orders giving official sanction to kill animals?why?a world where ppl consider eating non-veg a treat...a delicacy?I always gross out ppl when I say''I eat anything thats edible and not a corpse''...coz thats what it is..isnt that also a form of cruelty?

kislay Sometimes we humans deserve your anger and dislike. If we continue to believe the Earth belongs to us, one day, not too far away there will be no earth. Might is Right is wrong.

kaffirI think both have to go together. Improve security here and put Diplomatic pressure there. Don't you think so?

Indyeah We have this smug belief that the Earth is more ours than theirs, just because we are stronger. Yes, all this bothers me too. A lot. Desensitization is not a good sign for any civilization.
How civilised would we be without compassion?

nice game. I scored 935.
All these criminals should be reborn as animals and should be made to remember their past lives.

Nice and timely post, IHM. Timely, because we are talking about destruction. The power to destroy our environment, defeat our fellow-beings due to enmity and such other dastardly acts are manifest aplenty in human beings. So sad! Do read my latest post here:

“I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure”

From the movie , the Matrix .

Reema Absolutely! The way we first destroy their habitat and then complain when they move into ours is just outrageous. They deserve this.
935 is a brilliant score, I scored 125 and was advised to improve my aim :(

Gopinath's *Artickles* We forget that such destruction will not leave us unharmed!
Read your post :)

Kislay Powerful words, Kislay!!!

It does seem that we are out to destroy this world. And along with ourselves we will destroy all the others who do have a right on this Earth, whether or not we agree.

Do you know the plot of the movie , The day the Earth stood still ? I guess we could use something like that .

Indian Home Maker said...

Mandira Yes Mandira that is how nature meant it to be, but we keep assuming we have more right than they do on every resource :(

Monika We are so selfish and they are so helpless, so many leaders and reformers have made so many efforts to create some long lasting sense of compassion amongst us ... But there are many, many people who do condemn such cruelty.

Kislay No, but I can google it ...let me check.

It is indeed sad that people treat animals so badly.. It is appalling that hunting is still allowed in certain countries and there is a huge lobby trying to prevent it from being banned.. Very very sad. And you are so right when you say ' I think generally those who do care, care for all life forms.'

What a wonderful post. Love for animals, and all life forms is such a basic part of being a human being. Loved this post. Am blog rolling you. Have been wanting to write about the Bishnois for a while, but after reading your post, will make it sooner rather than later.

Cruelty towards animals is not something I would support or advocate... Yes, the cruelty shown is scary and it looks like levels of intolerance are increasing day-by-day...

I have earlier written on this, the worst speieces on this planet is us.

We learnt & evolved how to use the thumb & tongue better than these animals this gave us the upper hand !!

Ever since than we ensured subconsciously that none of the other speieces evolved. They were only made enxtinct and endangered.

I had a T-shirt once which had pictures of animals and the slogan: They were here first. That's what we need to remember.

I used to watch the Menaka Gandhi show during school college days. Which turned me into a veggie for a few months and ample of familial tensions in a bengali household. I have put certain days and vegg days for ethical and religious reasons.I wish people can comprehend that our intestines are closest to the cows, isnt it?
And animal torture and killings for fun? let me list it here.
Matador Bulls.
Cock fights.
pit bull fights
Walking horses http://www.usnews.com/blogs/erbe/2008/07/09/the-sadistic-treatment-of-tennessee-walking-horses.html
Then the killing for food/fortune/fun.
Sharks killed only for sharkfin soup
snake blood
Elephants killed for tusks
tigers for their bones/whiskers
fox/minks for furs
The list can go on and now penguins, salmons and seals dying because We men are snatching their diet as well.
I am so sorry for taking so much space here.
