Does Pink Clash with Saffron?

How does one choose any one favorite colour?

Beige curtains are fine but not beige sarees.
A pink lipstick is welcome but not pink planters.
And black is considered drab, but many of us love black for evening wear.

And then some colours have reputations.
Red is hot, white is cool, grey is drab, pink is soft.

Pink has become the colour of liberty and successful protests.

I think I like Fuchsia, a deep, bluish pink the best!
Fushcia is a pink, so it symbolises Liberty and Gender Equality.
It has blue so it defies gender colour coding.
And it looks great on flowers, clothes, lipsticks, cushions, curtains, luggage ...
(Though my cat doesn't like it ;D)

Edited to Add: I have been receiving some useful and interesting links -generally informative News articles, these come from my own email address, but I have not sent them to myself...
I wonder if somebody else is also receiving such links from themselves!?
The most recent one is this, 'Banished, Ram Sena chief slams BJP'.

Not that I have received any such mails !!

I love pink too as long as wife is wearing it or my kid... I somehow dont feel comfortable carrying it off !!!

@lankr1ta said...

That email thing, IHM has your account been hacked? Or have you set up email alerts? Please look into this.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Hitchwriter I know pink is seriously associated with women, but I think pink turbans and T shirts, shirts are worn by men also... but I agree with you it is difficult for men to carry off pink ...

@Alankrita I think it must be somebody sending the news articles related to this blog... and writing the name of the sender as Indian Homemaker, you don't need to sign in perhaps, just write a name. The articles are random, no fixed routine, from Telegraph or somewhere else ... is it possible to set such random alerts? I don't mind the links, they are welcome, just don't like the idea of them coming to me, from me! Anonymous or any other name would have been better!

Umm I am getting them too erm :-S

Saffron represents sacrifice and renunciation . I guess it clashes with Pink when the saffron-bearers want to sacrifice individual liberties and gender equalities at the altar of Culture(their's) .

Favourite Color is a question I can never answer. It has to be specific like Favourite cloth colour, favourite wall colour, favourite car colour etc.

But yeah, I've got two pink t-shirts :) I've heard the line - "Real Men wear Pink" and I so love it... :-D

Regarding the links, you might have left your email address at some websites subscribing for news or updates.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Raksh Of course a guy with a peace tattoo can carry off pink shirts and T shirts :)
I love the idea of a Peace tattoo!

The links are from various newspapers and on a range of topics, most useful, relevant etc, but Rakesh how is it possible to receive a variety of relevant random articles from myself ...? I am not worried, I realise it is easily possible to email articles to anybody and write their email address in the senders address column.

I like all the colors and nice bright yellow cheers me a lot! I just bought a yellow trench coat to get out of the dreary northeast winter and welcome spring:-)

Indian Home Maker said...

@Sandhya I love some yellows, like mustard yellow .. almost orange!

@Winnie the Poohi Maybe because we are writing on related topics... did you receive the same one?

Indian Home Maker said...

@Kislay So true! You are right! And the saddest part is our real Indian culture was not as repressed as we see it today.

In ancient India, people dressed like they do in Amar Chitra Katha, there was no needle and thread used for stitching then and one draped or tied fabric dyed in dyes produced from flowers etc.
Dyed fabric was expensive that is why white was not considered fancy or rich...

I love most shades of orange... what is saffron dye produced from? Lol must be from saffron of course!

My Favorite color :) Black. I like Fushcia too in my designs :), BTW, there is a tons of research on Black color and we had a chapter in Marketing about colors.

Eg: Most fast food restaurants are decorated with vivid reds and oranges? It's no accident that these colors show up so frequently. Studies have shown that reds and oranges encourage diners to eat quickly and leave

This links for you:

Indian Home Maker said...

@Chirag Your mean you like black shirts and t-shirts (I love those too!) Or black everything? Cars, curtains, shoes, knick knacks...?
I have opened your wikipedia link .. let me see what it says :)

Chirag said...

Except Curtains everything else, is just fine :)

Indian Home Maker said...

@Chirag I agree! Black curtains will definitely make a room look very gloomy!
But otherwise black has unnecessarily got bad reputation, black looks gorgeous in home decor too ... including in furnishings!
I too will not want fuchsia everywhere... and no pink walls either, I think mustard yellow walls or beige walls look good :)

Mavin said...

Wow....

Pink is a combination of Red + White
Saffron is a combo of Red + Yellow (a shade of it)

So you have the Reds claiming that they are at the base of everything.....Hail Karat
(obvious political under and overtones)

Indyeah said...

Love black most of all and red equally:D
confused between the two..

and all the colours of the rainbow specially yellow and blue..white and pink too:D..though ermm..most colours actually...for rooms the lighter the better:))

yup!you should look into the email thing just to be sure..coz no one I know is getting any..

PS:-PINK rocks most of all!:))

There is an award waiting for you !! :)

Indian Home Maker said...

@Mavin Awesome observations!! And I saw some red head gear in a video where a film star is making promises to the voters...
:)

@Piper In clothes, I love black too! Fuchsia is also fine during the day, but nowhere as popular as Black!

@Varun It's amazing how popular black is !! So you don't mind Fuschia and Pink either, Rakesh above is the same :)

@Vishesh I love colours too! And bright, pretty vibrant colours:)

@Indyeah I am also fond of red and black combination .. and I have seen your pictures in black! Oh yes you do love black, and black loves you too!

@RK Hey Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!! Coming over right now!

Mystic Margarita said...

I love red, black, and earth tones like brown, terracotta, burnt sienna. Pesonally, i don't like the color pink and it does not become me much :(

Ordinary Guy said...

Mine is black!!! and white.... :)

yes, I agree with Kislays views here.... :)
Fushcia.... well I got to learn about a new color.... LOL...

Varunavi said...

Pink is most favoured colour by girls,my daughter loves pink colour.
I didnt see much of guys wearing or prefering pink.I feel pink is feminine.
But like grey, bottel green and purpel. At one time i had only these three colour dresses with me.

i am what i am said...

i love yellows - all shades of it. i feel somehow it personifies positivity in life along with brightness and hope. i feel sunny and smiley all day if i am wearing yellow. very radiant colour if you ask me!!!!! though i went through a really yellow phase recently when people asked me if i had jaundice. i have toned myself down now on this particular color but i just cant let it go -:)

IHM, Looks like your account is hacked. Please do change the password immediately.

Now for the favorite color. I like Mehendi Green. It is also the color of fresh Cow Dung.

Chikki said...

Oh, thats the color I use in my blogs, even in my latest one, its called 'Fushcia'??I thought, its purple.

I don't get any mails from my own mailbox ofcourse,:-).Your mail box is haunted.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Chikki I couldn't find fuschia in font colour, it is a prettier, deeper, brighter colour... I better keep it black here!
But is fuschia your favorite colour too?
lol@haunted mailbox!

@I am what I am - I love yellow too, but but not lemon yellow! Only the brighter, darker shades...
lol@jaundice, I think mustard yellow/orange looks great on Indian skin.. like how turmeric was applied and washed off...

@Mystic Margararita I also love similar shades in clothes!!!! Also a dark grey, navy blue, dark green, red, maroon, ... but not brown!
Soft pink isn't for me either, but a darker magenta or fuchsia?

@Ordinary Guy Black is so popular! I also love black and even navy blue in clothes... Don't you like blue also?!
lol@learning a new colour :)

@Varunavi Markets are full of pink for girls - may be that's because they demand pink :)
I like bottle green too and grey in T shirts is great but purple doesn't suit me :(
What about Navy blue and maroon? I am sure you love them, and henna green too!

@Solilo YES! In clothes I love mehendi green too! In fact many dark greens- I think most Indians realise we look better in darker colours so we choose such colours ... err...isn't fresh cow dung more like brown...?
And everybody also loves black here, including me :)

homecooked said...

Surbhi said...

"Does Pink Clash with Saffron?"
Like hell it does, IHM! Ask Muthalik! :D

I love pink in all its shades, even 'rani colour' or magenta! I also love yellow (bright and sunny, not ochre), green (lighter shades, not bottle), black, white, red (all shades), orange (all shades) and blue (almost all shades, except for turquoise)! Quite a range, hai na?

Actually I'm fortunate to have a complexion with which all colours go well, so I have a multi-hued wardrobe.

Swati said...

I love pink , white and blue almost equally.

But I wonder why some people only wear their favourite colour ..do they feel nothing else suits them..I mean life is colourful ..so let it be ..why make it so monotonous ?
I have a girl here in office who wears only Mauve ..every day:O

Indian Home Maker said...

@Swati So you like soft, soothing colours?
And I agree it is very unlikely that anybody will look good in only one colour ...superstition is more likely to be the reason for preferring any one colour!!

I also love colours!

Indian Home Maker said...

@Surbhi You are lucky to be able to carry off all colours... I also like to have plenty of colours in my wardrobe, dupattas (and T shirts) make Indian wardrobe so colourful! We are really lucky to so much choice!
I love rani or magenta too.. it's a lot like fuchsia. But turquiose is very pretty too, in the wedding I attended during the sangeet almost 20% people wore turquoise and the next day 20% wore white with some gold or silver.

Smitha said...

IHM, My daughter would tell you ' I lub PINK!!!!!' Pink and saffron would probably clash and big time too :) As for Fuschia - yes you are right - its such a vibrant and versatile colour!!

As for my favourites.. I love black clothes when it comes to western stuff - helps make me look thinner and actually like bright oranges and saffrons :) when it comes to Indian clothes :)

Iya said...

for colors its like the theory of relativity - the context, be it person or occasion or climate or mood is of utmost importance

Indian Home Maker said...

@Iya I agree! But what about your own favorite colours for clothes, for walls .. I think you like turquoise!
But do take the test in the next post also... that's a lot of fun too, and I want to see if I guessed correctly...
:)

Mama - Mia said...

me likey all kinda colours! Red, blues, green and yellows and their shades! except the fluroscent variants!

and i love fuschia and magenta as shades of pink and recently realised have too many clothes in those shades! :p

and i love beige and ivory colour sarees or silk salwaar kameezes with perhaps a maroon border to offset it! :D
