She did not feel the need to meet the victims. But she met the culprits in jail. "I went to even meet the culprits in jail, I was with them for more than an hour. I even counseled them. I just wanted to know what is in their mind. I have even warned them that they are no body to take the law in their hands and beat up women," she said.
Will she also like to know what is in the minds of the victims? And all the other women and their families in the country?
She insists that the men who pulled at the girls clothes "had good intentions", they told Ms Venkatesh "they wanted to stop the live band and other activities that were spoiling the girls."
The molesters with criminal records said the girls were "wearing skimpy clothes and dancing and that is the reason the incident took place."
So now we know why sex related crimes hardly ever get reported in this country.
I wonder what are her views on Domestic violence. Does she think it's okay for a man to beat his wife to teach her a lesson?
Does she think it is okay to teach a lesson to a girl, perhaps occasionally by killing her if she can't safeguard her honor?
Did she have Civics in school? Or did they teach them Manusmriti? What about the harassment of Draupadi and Sita?
This enlightened Ekta Kapoor's twin soul further suggested that women should protect themselves from these kind of situations. "The lesson to be learnt for women out of this incident is that we should try and safeguard ourselves."I say, we will probably do a reasonably good job of protecting ourselves if you just stop protecting the attackers. Do you think these men would have dared to behave like this, in broad day light, if they did not have all this political support?
Without political support would those cowards have dared to come on National Television and threaten to molest any girls again if they are seen 'wearing so many nude clothes' etc ?
Watch her in action. Please don't break/scratch/hit/spit on the comp screen, the face maybe hers, the comp is yours. (Tried to add a smiley here, but can't. There's nothing to smile here these days.)
She also declared that the victims were wrong to have gone to that pub which only has license to serve food. Next time please demand to check the license when you go anywhere. Doesn't this smell of extortion?
But finally a small ray of hope.
The Union Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary, is going there within the next 48 hrs. She has sent a fresh team ... to have an on-the-spot assessment of the incident.
Ms Renuka Chowdhary has a good record. This woman helped get us the Domestic Violence Act. She put an end to Star/Zee/Aaj Tak's cheap, filthy sensationalizing simulations after the 13 year old Aarushi Talwar was killed.
She should have gone there earlier. But I am just happy she is going. What I don't understand is why doesn't she come on the TV and tell the women in India that it is NOT RIGHT for anybody to beat/rape/molest them. No matter what.
We need to hear that.

IHM, I saw that video. To say anything more than you have articulated so clearly and sombrely, is not needed. The video speaks for itself.
If this is the spokesperson for NCW, your post title is absolutely in place. Why do we need hoodlums, parties coloured with morality or even terrorists. One of her is enough!
Will REnuka Chowdhry make a difference. I do not have hope on that! Still, one can always keep the niggling feeling that something will be done, alive.
Usha Pisharody I heard Renuka Chowdhary say this was Talibanisation of India, and she is like Menaka Gandhi that way, generally she means what she says... I feel she is the only hope here!
Keeping my fingers crossed ...
And this Nirmala Venkatesh is shielding the molesters! Unbelievable!
God!!! I have always said and I repeat Women are the greatest enemies of Women...
I hope Renuka makes a difference though hope is bleak
@Monika I am sure she spends all her free time watching 'Kahani Ghar Ghar ki'.
What is she doing on a panel for women!?
does she plan to tell us what the "good intentions" were???? molestation, rape, scar on our minds and bodies???? looks like in her dictionary these amount to good intentions!!!!! and she says we need to learn to safeguard ourselves. well anyways dats what we do mostly. dont we??? ur right IHM if there was no political clout this incident would have never taken place at all!!!!!!!! you can judge that woman's intellect when she says victims should not have gone to the pub where they had a license just to serve food...really what more can you say when someone fails to understand the severity of the sitution and passes comments which only amount to buffonery and insensitivity at its best!!!!!!!!!
@Just Call Me A You are right! And I am delighted to someone else mad at this hypocrisy, and such values.
Now let's just pray Renuka Chowdhary is her usual self and manages to get these guys severely punished.
Dude, Is she dumb, I meam a log wood dumb.
@I went and net the goons!
For what,to see if they are being take care of in the jail. Or to thank them. WTF, whay meet the morons, Obviously you didn't meet the girls who were there.
@Nude girls dancing: Again I am sure this lady has a bad English and can't hold an opinion. Lady all the women were clothed. They were enjoying in a pub which i am sure hurts you.
@Cancel the license for not having a security gaurd:
OMG, so by that logic you should also cancel Indian government who let these incidents happen like a poisonous mushrooms on our culture.
Finally IHM, She's a DUMB women, incapable of empathizing of talking.
What is wrong with her? is she a member of National Council for Women or the national Council for Molesters and Goons? I am going to blog about this and link yours. Very thoughtprovoking IHM!
@Shilpa We must not let this die. This case is the reason why women in this country are not free or equal. It has left me shaken, the gross, blatant disregard for human values, justice, constitution and liberty ... EVERYTHING about it is wrong.
@Chirag After watching such people when we hear a man say this is wrong and log wood dumb, I realise how wrong is this concept is that this is a battle of the sexes. It is not! The battle is between selfish hypocrites and realistic idealism.
Thanks for this comment.
We need voices like yours Chirag.
Renuka Chowdhary is the only women who has spoken in the past too whenever there were such shameful attacks on women.
You have very articulately put the links and thoughts and have to agree with you on everything.
IHM, Some of the pictures are not showing up. I don't know if its just me.
IHM, what is one to do . According to one of th commentors on my blog, apparently we need to move away from "running away" and do something(what, he does not quite state). I guess we are not fighting hard enough, not when no one seems to be able to help us. Maybe in India they need to just ban women. That will solve ALL problems.
@Solio I admire Renuka Chowdhary, we need more like her! I will check the pictures ... could you see the video? It might cause high blood pressure, but still it's worth it.
@Alankrita I read that comment (in my email in box), and I also thought what exactly can we do. I think these guys should be taken to the court, and also those dangerous politicians who are protecting them. With so much anger, I am sure we will come up with something. We need a Teesta Setalwad here. I admire her and am going to look for her email address ...
IHM, Didn't realize there were images, none are visible.
@Chirag Can you see the video now? An embedded You Tube video.
I read and watched Ms. Venkatesh before coming here.
Is 'too many nude clothes' a new brand she is launching this summer to beat the heat? May be these goons are the models of these nude clothes :)):))
I can't see any of the pictures.
Hi first time here. Can't see the pics but saw the video - unbelievable ! Is that woman for real ???
read your other post on the girl child. Amazing story of that Rajput woman. we were four sisters and it was all good until when my mum decided to adopt my cousin when I was in 12th class and he was an infant. That day I realised that all these years of her saying that she was a proud mum of four lovely girls, she really wanted a son deep down somewhere. Not to mention, I protested fiercely but she won in the end. I sobbed uncontrollably on my dad's shoulder and asked him if we were any less than any son in any way ? Dad was obviously not happy with the decision but he told me about how she was always taunted in family gatherings for not having a son and how other bahus of the family were treated differently cos they had sons. That hurt her a lot. I can see then where she was coming from but still couldn't justify that adoption. Probably bcos there was a contradiction there- I was always told that my Daadaji, though not very rich, always encouraged his DILs to study further if they wanted to and had funded one of his bahu's ambitions to get a degree in music in those times! I am so glad and proud that my dad had always and still loved us more than he would have loved any son of his.
Sorry for the long comment, but that story touched my heart.
"Did she have Civics in school?"<<--- Nah, I checked out her interview from the link in your post. Doesn't sound like she even went to a school.
I cant believe she belongs to NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR WOMEN (NCW). She sounded more like, someone from the women wing of RAM-SENA. I cant believe she's trying to be diplomatic out here.
"There was no security-god also".whhhaaatt??Does she even know about this incident??What will a "Security-god" do when 40 or so rowdies enter and start molesting gals in a pre-planned manner. The next recommendation we can probably hear from her is to deploy ARMY in front of pubs.
I was confused whether to laugh at her or start crying out of helplessness! This is disgusting. The incident was bad enough, people supporting it is horrendous!!!!
Why is the Goddamn Prime minister not interfering???Or he doesn't have time for this "small incident".Or he doesn't think that this is something of national importance??I am badly hurt at his indifference.
IHM, what are we doing about it?Let me know if there is something in your mind. Don't want our feelings to just remain inside this blog.Have already signed that petition thats in your blog. what next?
It just gets worse doesn't it??
With women like her saying these sort of remarks as a representative of women is just give more proof to the adage that women are in fact a woamn's worst enemy.
The molesters are going to take solace in her defense actions and use it to further justify these attacks and those in the future.
I really hope that Renuka Chowdhary can make a difference.
It is really sickening you know IHM. It feels like we are literally back in the dark ages. They were not upholding the law, but breaking it in bits. Soon there will be people running into our homes beating us up with sticks for so much as hugging someone of the opposite sex, maybe we will be expected to take bath fully clothed too. Swimming pools will be only for men all over India too. This is just unbearable now, how much more nonsense is there going to be?
Who put her in NCW?? OMG this is the pits!
I saw this on the News too and was equally shocked and speechless!!!
Good thing that a new team is being sent, but I am equally puzzled at Renuka's stance of not coming on national TV and saying out loud and directly that all this is wrong and hooliganism of this sort should not be supported or carried out...
I wonder why no one has tried to get an inetrview from her... ?
NDTV's Big Fight was also on this incident and topic and it was very well conducted by Vikram Chandra (Right name? not too sure...)
One lady (She spoke thru the VCon) said directly that NO ONE has any right to tell women what they are doing is right or wrong wrt to their clothes, habits etc. I forgot her name... she spoke very strongly and very well...
Maybe I can try getting the link to the show...if you haven't seen it yet?
Pretty sad state of affairs........ when that dame talks like that..............
but I cannot but laugh when she says "they were wearing nude clothes"......
BTW, what are "nude" clothes?? *Clueless Shail*
IHM, I asked my Dad why our Women's Organizations don't do what they must but spread lies (pub's fault) and misconceptions (live bands and pubs 'spoil' girls) and vile thoughts (girls were wearing 'skimpy' clothes and perhaps doing dope). He said that like the politicians (Yedyurappa, Gehlot), they are also a political organisation after all, and here to earn money. Dad actually laughed at me (cynically) for thinking that Women's Cell would protest against this when they know they'll be paid handsomely for singing the politicians' tunes. And he added, for good measure, that I should not repeat this in front of anybody else, lest they take me to be an ignorant fool.
The sarcasm and cynicism in Dad's words chilled me to the bone. I was scared.
I am no less a cnic, so I doubt Renuka's intentions are noble. If they are noble, I doubt she'll do much on this front. What if she's just killing time to let the issue die down? I think its up to the citizens of Mangalore (aided by responsible media) to bring the government to its knees.
Surbhi I have grown up hearing this all my life :)Bur believe me we are the ones who make a difference, In have seen it practical to see when there is a wrong, but without giving up. This is important to understand.
... but this is the first time when I am feeling VERY hopeless. Only Hope: Renuka Chowdhary might find that it makes Congress look good if BJP (The CM Yeddu Moron)looks bad? Maybe the politics of vote bank will make her say the right thing?
Maybe we should descend on Mangalore in huge numbers and light take protest marches?
@Pixie yes and these news channels can help us, they have it in their power. But then one hears of their being bought by this political group or that ... NDTV is said to be pro Democracy, and I HOPE they follow this up.
@Ajit Now let's say positive stuff and laugh whenever we can.
@ Shail Ms Nirmala Venkatesh's new fashion collection.
@Shilpa I suspect The national Council for Molesters and Goons.
@Goofy Mamma we will se stuff like, "maybe we will be expected to take bath fully clothed too. Swimming pools will be only for men all over India too."... unless something drastic happens now.
@Silvara 'I really hope that Renuka Chowdhary can make a difference.'... if she doesn't?
@Chikki I feel exactly the way you describe. "I was confused whether to laugh at her or start crying out of helplessness! This is disgusting. The incident was bad enough, people supporting it is horrendous!!!!"
IHM,I usually have some trust in such women organizations,as they help to bring out or keep live the issue thru the media,as people liek you and me can't get our message to the greater public..It is sad that she said this. But what is she trying to prove? That it was girl's msitake to go to pub? remember that Sheila Dixit asked women not to engage in 'adventerous jobs' in regard to a girl getting killed in Delhi(i huess) ..See,the attitude and the message conveyed is simple..Our society isn't growing up in the same pace as that of women empowerment and hence the major clashes..We are still (this included majority of women too) obsessed with beings underdogs in patriachial soceity...I can igve you a long list of my friends (software enggr) who work in Wipro,Accenture,TCs etc etc, saving money for their marriage,so that they can pay a 'decent' dowry..Isn't it really sad that even after being educated and having a job,she is still under the cluches of social evils.this holds true for almost all women issues..
Take a poll ammong our common women, they will not support the girls and will instead rant the way Nirmala did..So,to end my rant,my point is simple, before asking men to respect us,we need to teach and make women aware that respect and self-esteem is not anybody's stake, but our birth right..Women themselves should feel that 'This should not happen to me ,I don't deserve this'..Unless that attitude changes, things like this will keep happening..
Ever wondered why these girls attcked are not coming in public or filing a police case?We never heard of them. Why? Simple, the social taboo and also, deep inside maybe they doubt themselves of questioning themselves whether they did it right or wrong..
When women stand up to make a choice, they should stand by it,else a small blow will take them 100 steps in the backward direction..I wish those girls had talked against what happened and filed a case for violence against them..
Sorry for long rant..I am in bad mood early mornign itself :(
2Bs Mommy Welcome to my blog :)
I know of many families where the parents made it very clear that the daughters will inherit whatever they have and also be responsible for taking care of the parents. That's how it should be.
And since the girls don't live in joint families, they are able to do this so easily.
We can change this with our generation by making sure our children are equal in every way and by being strong mothers.
Our mothers were raised differently. I am sure she must have also been unhappy that she had to accept such pressures ...
Yes, I saw the video, but page show as if there are a few images, just wanted to make sure.
Chirag - OH!!!I will see if I can correct this!
The sexism in our society is a result of the attitudes of both men and women. I am not even surprised that this woman thinks like this. And I have started to wonder if the next generation is better. A commentator on my blog told me that even young engineering students (girls) think on similar lines!
I think one of the reasons could be that these women come from male dominated households where they themsleves are unable to be free. As they can't do it, they don't want others to do it either. They want to pull others down.
Looks like India is a long long way off from giving women and equal status in society. I usually don't like Jug Suraiya's colums but today in the times he has written a very nice piece, about how suppression of a woman's freedom is all that these so-called religious groups want.
Well said.
I have experienced first hand how things are tackled when a girl is harrassed. The first time (it was my Manipuri classmate /friend with whom I was going back fom the Lucknow University back to hostel) I screamed at them and they went away using bad language. They were taken aback that I was not that well behaved Lucknowie girl.
BUT, once we reported this to the lecturers there, they first wanted us to write a letter (I found that demeaning enough to write down that what had happened), one even laughed sheepishly. One offered to take us out of the campus in the evening, but never did it. But, nobody ever came upon the idea or gave it a single thought to question the guys. She had almost made up her mind to drop the course and go back. She just had a few months left.
About a week later, we saw them again waiting for us - I was dead scared this time- luckily there were some good souls (boys from another class who knew about it) who saw them and took care of the situation. I heard later that these boys who helped us had a big fight with these "bad" guys and they guys were taught a lesson. We could finish our course in peace. But I'll never forget this incidence.
Nirmala V's comments were a series of WTF moments!
i mean its just ridiculous that these people just cannot come out and say its wromg harrass a woman whether you like what she is doing or not!!
its wrong to harass anyone because someone somewhere thinks that its wrong! that way all of us can start hitting and kicking each other everytime we dont agree!
i hope Renuka makes a much needed difference!
cheers!
abha
And IHM as Nita mentioned Jug Suraiya's column,I was reminded of a thought that came to my mind while reading it in the morning.
Jug Suraiya says Indian girls can fly aeroplanes but cant go to pubs.
And I thought I'll share with you:)that there is this best friend of mine who is an Airforce pilot.:) She topped her batch/ and course and is flying choppers in the Airforce.:)
We will get where we want to IHM.Step by step, one step at a time.
Such incidents streghthen the resolve..nad help us realize that our voice should be heard loud and clear.
IHM,I was about to make the same point that Surbhi made.
Just because the organisation's name is NCW 'National Commission for Women' is not a reason to expect anything from them. They are as much part of the filth as the rest of them.Despite all their grand speeches in public they are just a bunch of women with pretensions of being a social worker/samaaj sevika/sudharak(even if she tortures her own DIL)/and feminist.(With statements like these!)
And they are a blot on all of these terms.
There are very, very few who are sincere.
This woman does not have any brains so let's not speak of her.Would you have that much of patience to listen to her crap in everyday life? One would be tempted to slap her, I think.
But at the same time she is saying this on camera, so one can't escape her, even if one wants to.
This woman who doesn't serve to be called anything remotely human seeing as how she doesnt have any brains left,is merely parroting what so many women in India feel/are made to feel over time/
She has imbibed all these values ,nonsense as they are....precisely because of all the reasons we talked about earlier.
Because women are raised with this mindset with no clue that there can be another alternative(like thinking on your own maybe Nirmala?)or the fact that there is another world out there which consists of women who are trying to reach somewhere all on their own.
This mindset shouldnt make us fume because it comes from a woman.
It is precisely because it comes from a woman that we need to realise how deeply rotten society has become ,where even the victims dont realise they are being victimised in so many ways. They start passing the blame and refusing to stand up for other victims.
In their minds, men are ALWAYS RIGHT
We should keep this in mind , that it is not just men but women too who are a part of the crowd that seeks to encourage such acts of hooliganism.
And we shouldnt lose hope but realize who are the forces that we need to tackle in our own little ways everyday(even talking to your maid helps)
I too hope Renuka does something, whatever the reason might be..
IHM,We will not lose hope.
We will kick ass in our own ways.
Action does not always have to be defined in a particular way.
It starts from the home where raising sons and daughters plays a huge role as does marrying someone who is all that we love (JKG:))
as is standing up for yourself in every little thing/decision which every woman should do.
as is teaching/learning with other girls/students/friends
and candellight marches/vigils/protests/etc also help
but most imporatntly women should not be afraid to speak out against such B********
hahahah I want to see her as Prime minister of India ... ( after we succefully set up a colony in Moon, to be safe ;) )
I have started loving your blog :D good job !!
All I've wanted to ask all these politicians is:
What law were those goons "taking into their own hands?" Over and over again we've heard that "nobody will be allowed to take the LAW into their hands", my question is what law??
The girls committed a crime by going to a pub which had a license to serve only liquor but the various men who were present over there didn't?
Also the girls were wearing "nude clothes" (I doubt she's taken either Civics or English in school-still that doesn't mean she has to oppose western culture so strongly!) yet when you see the hundreds of Indian men who 'take a leak' on the street in full public view, causing a stench and dirtying the street, THEY aren't a public nuisance? If anyone felt that the girls shouldn't expose themselves by wearing revealing "western" clothes, then I certainly feel that no man should subject anyone else to THAT!!!
Any answers forthcoming from the politicians? I'm beginning to give up hope... :(
It is also scary even in face of criticism and police action, otehr leaders fear to come out in open and condemn the act. Insteda they make soft, distasteful remarks about women and pseudo-culture/religion. We are going towards Dark Ages, I feel.
After the media outburst,Girija Vyas, came out and told everyone that Nirmala had given her "personal" views and therefore her report would be declared null and void and a fresh report would be filed by the NCW. I wish someone could properly explain what is going on
carry mace...all the time because the guy at the corner, in the canteen, carnival, boyfriend, husband might just attack; confident that the majority in power - males will be there to cover up, make excuses, become perfect alibis and bail them out.
carry mace.
"She insists that the men who pulled at the girls clothes "had good intentions"
How can anyone make a statement like that? More importantly, how can someone give it even an iota of credibility? NV should be in the same cell as the molesters.
And IHM, I wouldn't put too much faith in Renuka. Not that she doesn't mean well, but not too much gets done. Fingers crossed again.
Abha left a message on my blog saying perhaps she would learn martial arts. I think that's a great suggestion. Astralwicks thinks women should carry mace. That too is a great idea. Women have to help themselves.
Quirky Indian
This incidents makes me sick. It's pathetic & absolutely .........I don't have words. Every time I read about it, I get goosebumps. These people have been released on bail!! What kind of law we have.
We do not have a law. And let us not forget the NCW is composed of politicians- who , as we can see, are all smart micks on the make who would sell their kids if it got them political mileage. No one will do anything about it- let us realize that too. A bit of sensationalizing, a bit of outrage and then we are back to square one. The laws are in place- no one enforces them- or indeed will. There is a constitution , but who cares? Not our esteemed Ministers.
And finally, even we are so immured to this, that we are ready to fight some more- as if it were not a right to be treated with dignity. We should carry mace, learn karate, all very fine, but it will only erupt in worse ways- pubs today, homes tomorrow.
The problem as I see it is how we allow these people to talk us out of what happened. That the pub was not secure is not the issue. That the girls were loose, were drinking, were on drugs ( or whatever) is not the issue. That the men meant well is not the issue either. The issue is that a group of people who were not harming anyone were assaulted by another group of people, who were trying to bully the former. That is a law and order thing. Nothing else. And unless we see it as right or wrong, without the justification we will be wrong.
I have not been able to think straight about this issue at all- because it could have been me. All my fears of living alone are coming back to haunt me. I have probably been going ballistic on this but every action/non-action by our esteemed government has just made it worse- I just wonder how horrible it must be for those girls.
http://www.rediff.com/news/2009/feb/02inter-there-is-a-need-to-safeguard-indian-culture.htm
You can add this link to the list of people who talk without having the slightest clue whatsoever of anything. I doubt if these people were taught anything. They still have the highest opinion of Ram who asked Sita to walk through fire. While everyone including Ekta Kapoor talk about the valiant and Purush example Ram, I think it is high time girls started talking about the anger of Sita against injustice which caused her to create and Earthquake, or Kannagi's anger that burnt Madurai or Draupadi who had the moral courage of 100 Kauravas put together or even more than Beeshma. Why not build temples for them.
As long as there are people like this nitwit, Manyata and the lot who keep calling for false modesty, false Indianization and False pride in a culture that has been cooked up, we will also need people like Renuka Choudary and women who have the power to create and the power to destroy falsehood and elements that stop them from living a just life.
I am a goon and I'm overwhelmed by the support I'm getting - Thanks world! Read more about my day here http://wisegirl109.blogspot.com/2009/02/day-in-life-of-sri-ram-sainik.html
I wonder how can people defend such an act.. This was a crime in broad daylight & nothing can justify it.
People who are "supposedly our representatives" - the politicians - are working to curb our freedom, doing anything for some cheap publicity. Hate to call them our representatives.
Great post IHM, Your anger is infectious.
But do not loose all hope. Also do not believe a single person[i.e Renuka Choudary] can do wonders.
Let me try to predict what will happen to this case. Since law and order is a State subject the Centre have only limited role. When Mrs Choudhary comes to Mangalore BJP will raise a hue and cry abt unwanted Centre interference. There will be most probably protests against her visit with the accusation of tarnishing Karnataka's name. She and her team can only produce a scathing report critisising the role of State Government in the incident. She can also ask the State Government to ensure peaceful celebration of Valentines day.
What should happen is the Women and youth organistaions of Karnataka along with literary figures, cine stars, sports persons,Trade Unions etc come together for a protest against Talibanisation of society. A start can be given if all women and also men in IT sector in Banglore stage a protest march may be on a Sunday. All like minded organisations can be invited. Also the Valentines day can be celebrated all over India as a protest against Talibanisation.'Women to boycott BJP' campaign through email may also help.
Shocking statements.
More so considering she is a member of the Congress party.
And of course the esteemed minister, Renuka Chaudhary, will milk this incident to its full extent since the attackers were the 'Hindu Taliban' in a BJP governed state.
@R So long as the milking this incident is not unconstitutional, and for justice we can't complain!
@Charakan
1. All like minded organisations can be invited.
2. Also the Valentines day can be celebrated all over India as a protest against Talibanisation.
3. 'Women to boycott BJP' campaign through email may also help."
Brilliant ideas!
@N Yes and it is impossibly horrible. Anybody with any sense is totally shaken ... and yet there are some who talk about how it would be a god lesson and it would put an end to the pub and drug culture. Such people are the bane of a Democracy.
@Gautam Ramdurai LOL :))) :) ROTFL Mr Goon We're all with you! How about creating a blogger Sena?
@Binaru footprints, I never thought of it!
Wonderful!
I think it is high time girls started talking about the anger of Sita against injustice which caused her to create and Earthquake, or Kannagi's anger that burnt Madurai or Draupadi who had the moral courage of 100 Kauravas put together or even more than Beeshma. Why not build temples for them.
@Alakrita Yes. The issue is that a group of people who were not harming anyone were assaulted by another group of people, who were trying to bully the former.
I have not been able to think straight about this issue either. I have been going kind of numb and crazy too ...
@Monika.Ansh Charakan above has suggested some measures, I think we can all decide to tell our friends and everyone specially if they're in Karnataka to NOT VOTE FOR BJP. Let's make a noise.
@Quirky Indian She has (unofficially) joined the Ram Sene, she even visited them in the jail to tie up some lose ends. But the latest I heard was she was going to be fired from NCW ... obviously she can't be involved in two profitable ventures.
@Astralwicks Yes we must carry mace.
Or maybe we should stay at home.
@Wisegirl What happened was that this Nirmala Venkatesh met the criminals in the jail and was so impressed with their courage, convictions and characters that she joined their Sene.
@Alchemistpoonam Yes Poonam their distasteful remarks are the most frightening. I don't know if they are afraid looks more like they are all hand in glove.
@Freespirit We are all feeling hopeless. I have never seen a more bleak situation. And the Law Srimati Nirmala Devi lives her pure and moral life by is Manusmriti.
Manusmriti has no rules against men peeing in public, what can Ms Venkatesh do!
@Dinu Thanks :) It seems the state government is required to take action. Do read Charakan's comment above.
PG Thanks for sharing! We must blog about such things. You will find for every one case you mention there will be ten more that women can tell you from their own personal experiences and then we know that the problem is not what we drink, or how we dress or what time we were away from home, but how we embolden these sex assaulters by finding excuses for them. If there is one thing we should all swear is NEVER EVER BLAME A WOMAN FOR BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. I know women do it all the time.
After Jessica Lal case I heard one woman ask why she was there in the bar in the first place ... they just don't think...
Of course no complaints. But it would be nice if she shows similar enthusiasm in other cases as well.
And taking your suggestion, of not voting for the BJP for this incident, to its logical conclusion we wont be able to vote for any party in the elections.

This attitude is a grave mistake. Media with vested interests will try to make us think that all Political Parties are the same and all Politicians are bad.
Take the Mangalore pub attack. It happened only because the Hindutva forces are strong in that area. The fact that BJP is in power made the goons confident enough to have the visual media cover it. They were sure that they would be let off on bail soon. Congress, mainly in Saffron States sometimes try to act more Saffron than BJP [eg Rajasthan]. This is because of crude opportunism. BJP's anti-woman attitude is ideological while Congress's anti woman attitude is opportunistic. Opportunistic foe can be brought towards our side but you can't change inherent anti-woman attitudes in Hindutva ideology.
Somebody should beat the crap out of this(Nirmala Venkatesh) B!tch with good intentions!!!
