We never learn...

So upper caste Hindus from North India think Raj Thakre is wrong, but Bajrang Dal is right (Right it is no doubt).
Maharashtrian Hindus think Bajrang Dal is wrong, but Shiv Sena and MNS are saving Marathi culture by ....
Modi supporting Hindus think it is acceptable that Modi never expressed regret over post Godhra riots.

Can anybody add more to this list?
Most of us don't think beyond our own interests.
And now Maharshtra Navnirman Sena has started rioting and arson.

And both my kids are at school.

Asked later : SHOULDN'T ANY PARTY/ORGANISATION/GROUP THAT CAUSES VIOLENCE AND ARSON BE BANNED?

they should be treated the same as terrorists....no mercy.
Period.

and MNS and Bajrang Dal should be banned right away.

Just call me 'A' said...

oh my god. i hope there is not too much trouble :|. Raj Thackeray is due to appear in court today right? for some earlier rioting and attacking some migrant workers. i guess that's the reason for the rioting and arson this time. But these people ahrdly need 'reasons' for rioting.

Stay safe. Gnight from my part of the world :)

Of course they should be banned! How different are they from terrorists - aren't they also creating terror in the hearts of us Indians?

New Party..easy route to reach people, rather get votes...raj will be a martyr..

Hi IHM, Real question here is why now, what it yield for them. Everyone is bothers about their stupid "Seats" and couldn't care less is its real people they use for their games.

On other hand I will not blame politicians they have always used "Common Man" but when will we learn.

MNS, shivsena, bajrang dal all of them should be banned... and all such organistions... they all are doing much harm to the society....

hope all is well... take care

Ritu said...

There is total lack of political will to ban these parties. Short sighted selfish politicians. Praying for your children's safety

IHM,

i read in Outlook that 69% of indians want Bjarang dal to be banned..But it is not happening..This is election year..As i always say,we'll have more n more drama ahead..

As of today,to me,Congress seems the most dangerous party...See how shitty they are playing with people's sentiments and making rifts more n more as to make use of it during election time..

I was a pro congress lady..but no more..but i don't know who else to support..what a dilemma..

It is not that Maharastra government don't want to act..I can bring you thousands of instances where muslim men where arrested and put in jail even without trial for years,bcoz they made hate speeches..I am not talking in support of them..i hate them..But see how easiyl people like Raj move around spitting all venom..

I didn't want to mix religion in this,but basically its all about religion dear..See how much harm to people's sentiments and harm to public propety this Raj pshycho has done..What happened these months..nothing..nothing at all..And nothing great is going to ahppen..Watch TV for "Breaking news" of him coming out of court waving hands and smiling after bail...So,who is made the donkey at the end of the day??

I appreciate you talking against them.but nobody hearing voices of you and me..

nimis540 said...

I blame no politician..it is their job.but why on earth do we crappy dirty lazy dumbo aam addmi atill choose to remian in the condsition we are now..If we dn't bother to act,we are expected to shut mouth ..What bloody sick insensitive mass we are ..If we don't have brains to use our brians properly,it is our fautl and not theirs..

Uh,sorry IHM i am in a abd mood now..This is all crazy dear..I feel so helpless..Oh yeah,as my husband says it right,i am dreaming of changing the world and turning it right..Its better i spent my time cooking eating and sleeping and watch love stories and finally die by some goonda or terorrist..

We get what we deserve..Bcoz we 'intellect' choose not to do much since we are concerned about our own life,'petty people' like paanwala and rikshwala get died in bomb blasts..

I wish terrorists go blast Sonia or Advani and like people so that they will move their ass and do something..I wish people like Raj go and shout and beat up people like Amitabh and other 'forigeners' in Mumbai instead of beating up students who came to write exam and spoil business of small shopkeepers..uh..

@ IHM,
@ nimis540

I do agree with what nimis says - we perfectly deserve the leaders & politicians we get.
We as an electorate are swayed by money, speeches that inflame, and leaders that lead us astray.
If there were more folks like Adolf at juhu, we might hv a little more sanity around.
But do we..
Till then let us live with our Rajs & Govindas. We deserve them as much as they deserve us.

@ IHM
More importantly though, pick up your kids if not done so already. But are not the diwali vacations on by now..
Unless, CBSE maybe ?

Mampi said...

Of course they should have been banned long back. It is a shameful blot on the secular face of India that they are allowed to function, fight elections and go on harming the delicate fabric of democracy.

shail said...

Exactly! 'We' never learn...

manju said...

You know, I used to think that such parties should be banned. But now I think that the 'common man' should learn to take responsibility. If no one joined the MNS what power would Raj Thackeray have?

Mama - Mia said...

IHM - i am so sick and tired of such people! I feel ashamed to be a Marathi manoos when I have zealots like Raj Thackrey trying to fight a non-existant "cause" and pretend they are doing it for us.

they should all be banned and pronto! of the city has to burn, let is burn for a definitive action rather than this farcical arrest etc!

hope your kids got home safe and sound! Our HO is shutting down early too in hope that everyone gets home safely...

i am so sick of MSN and the thackery khandan, u cant imagine. they seem to believe that they can hold bombay( and the rest of maharashtra)to ransom whenever they feel like it. they truly are terrorists...
getting to office and back wasnt easy today..i hope ur kids reached school and back safely.

It's also the time ask ourselves.

Are we moderate enough ? What is our stand on Politics and other topics..like Gender Bias, Relations etc..

If learning may start inside, things will settle outside.

(IHM, I hope your kids are safe).

@Pinku I wish!

@just call me 'a' Yes it does seem that if not this we'd find another reason, another leader:(

@D Yeah all of them.

@Sunder How? That will cause even more rioting!!

@Chirag Common man is so busy counting his little gains, he can't see how he is feeding and nurturing a dinosaur sized future problem.

@Monika Thanks, all are fine.

@Ritu It seems Congress is actually party to all this.

@Nimmy Yes, what we get we deserve.

@does it matter Thanks, the Kids are fine. They saw nothing, thought the whole thing got them a half holiday, they claim all the kids were celebrating.

@Mampi I feel they will not be banned.

@Shail WE are not we anymore, we are you and I :(

@Manju Some hefty looking men came to the market and forced the shopkeepers to put their shutters down. Mainly women were there, for Diwali shopping, they had to come back home without shopping, but the market opened again after these guys left...so they are not really being supported except by the unemployed.

@Abha Yes I hope the law and order is firmly restored, our everyday life should not become so unnecessarily stressful.
The kids are fine. May not send them to school tomorrow.

@endevourme Thanks :) And welcome!!

@Imp's Mom yes, and what a relief! thank you :)

@Mandira Yeah all unnecessary!

@manish Raj All this makes me see how right Gandhi was!

IHM, have you read Vinod Sharma's post about India's vortex of competitive intolerance. Here's the link, it is an absolutely brilliant read and gives a lot of insight into why this kind of politics thrives in India.

Not all the politicians are like this though, Nitish Kumar, Mayawati and Buddhadeb come to mind.

Priyanka said...

I remember a marathi friend saying to me "Its only because of Thackeray that we Hindus are still safe in Bombay".
My expression said "Yeah right!"
The thing is when people say things like this to me, I don't even feel like replying back. Its like they are from another planet- a planet where people have no brains.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Vikram I read the link. Yes we are becoming increasingly, competitively intolerant. My next post is my response to one of the comments on an earlier post on casteism, you will see what I mean when I say many of us justify these acts of terror... so long as they are not the victims.

Indian Home Maker said...

@Priyanka Yeah right :) LOL I have also heard such sentiments. Soon we will be Divided States of India :(

Does it matter said...

Ha!
:-)
Trust kids to see the bright light even in all the darkness.. Reminds one of school days.

One of the things I am seeing on many of the comments is the blame game - either blaming Raj or the Congress or BD or VHP or any one else. I think the day we stop blaming politicians and blame ourselves for this mess will be the day out troubles will start vanishing.

You have brought out the double standards of people very well. A good, thought provoking post.

I also wonder whether history has anything to do with how we shape up as a people?

Go back to the year 1960 when Bombay State was split into the states of Maharashtra & Gujarat. At that point, the city of Bombay had a larger Gujarati population than Marathi, and the logical demand was to either merge Mumbai (Bombay city) with Gujarat state, or - as was suggested by many then - to make Mumbai a Union Territory. However, the Samyukta Maharashtra agitation was a violent one (Refer http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Samyukta-Maharashtra-Samiti). And it set ground for a militant political agenda.

Was that not the foundation for the situation we are at today? History teaches us so many lessons, basis errors of omission & commission.

A weak nation then did not protest because it was only against one weaker (then, atleast) community, and it did not affect most other people.

If it was not worthy of protests then, why is it now? Because it affects Us (capital deliberate) now ?

@IHM- I do think that things are changing at least in urban India for the Dalits. Here, it's more of financial standing than casteism which would affect people. Of course, in rural India things rea far different.

Good old T company has started some kind of civil war , I guess . A train in Bihar with Maharashtrian crowd was set on fire . Doesn't that make me proud ! And a Bihari student , Pawan Mahato succumbed to his injuries , courtesy MNS . I am wondering what comes next .

Ajit said...

@IHM,
One of the most frustrating things about our society is that, if anybody has a problem, he just has to "Destroy Public Property" and harm ordinary citizens.
This happens in every state in India.
What happened to the "theory" called civil Disobedience or peaceful hartal.....

IF you want more examples, look no furthur than TN (my home state).
The DMK, AIADMK, PMK, DMDK are just but a few parties who claim that they stand for the "Dravidian People" but the double standard here is that, they also practise casteism.

Charakan said...

Nice post.Yes I think I can add more to your list of double standards.
In Tamilnadu most of the political parties want to help LTTE.They cant accept shedding of 'tamil blood' by Srilankan Army.But they have no voices when for so many years LTTE had shed blood of innocent Srilankans [mostly of Tamils who do not support them and of Sinhalese].
A Muslim fundamentalist who cries hoarse over police high handedness have umpteen reasons to justify terror bombings.
A christian communalist who is lamenting about the poor state of dalits will never be ready to give her daughter in marriage to a dalit christian.
There are many more I can think of......

Alameen said...

First, Maharashtra politics was based on the hatred against South Indians.. Then someday the hatred against muslims took the centre stage. Recently it's all against the North Indians..

Why do we need to hate a section for uniting the others..

It's sad..
